Szczecin

Szczecin is the largest city in northwestern Poland. Located along the Odra River at only 10 km from the the German border, it is both the political, cultural as industrial capital of the West Pomeranian region. World War II destroyed most of Szczecin's historic city center. Only a few buildings, including the 15th century town hall and the 16th century cathedral, have been rebuilt. The remaining Old Town (Stary Miasto), the historic buildings along the Odra promenade (Wały Chrobego), as well as the Pomeranian Dukes Castle, are all worth a visit. Furthermore, there are a number of large shopping malls, and Szczecin has a vibrant and varied nightlife.
